What we do

Empower

Every girl deserves to know she is capable and valued.

Educate

Raising awareness is the first step in creating change.

Advocate

It's time we stand up for girls in our community and around the world.

Fundraise

Every dollar counts when it comes to helping girls all around the world become empowered, educated, and safe.

Girl Up Lincoln Public Schools is Nebraska's first ever Girl Up chapter! Running in conjunction with the Girl Up leadership development initiative, hosted at the United Nations Foundation, we work to empower youth and educate, fundraise, and advocate for girls all around the world. On the elementary and middle school level, we run after-school empowerment programs, and on the high school level, we plan events that work to accomplish Girl Up's goals. Our entire organization is youth-run and non-partisian.

Our programs are currently in 12 LPS schools and serve hundreds of youth on the elementary, middle, and high school level.

our story

Girl Up LPS was founded by former Lincoln East High School student, Ina Bhoopalam, during the Fall of 2017. Ina saw the problems her peers faced and wanted to make a difference. After over a year of hard-work, Ina was finally able to get approval to pilot her empowerment program at Maxey Elementary School. The program saw massive success, and Ina saw her dream become a reality when Girl Up LPS launched in full strength. Girl Up LPS is now in its third year of running, and has impacted hundreds of students throughout LPS.
